The Butchart Gardens Express Shuttle is a round-trip coach that leaves from the Ogden Point cruise terminal and takes 35–45 minutes each way to the gardens, 22 km north of Victoria. Does it fit your shore window?
This is the part the booking sites leave out. Butchart is 45 minutes each way at worst, and 90 minutes is the realistic minimum to actually see the Sunken Garden without jogging — about 3.5 hours door to door. We then protect your all-aboard time with the same 60-minute buffer used everywhere else on this site, so the shuttle needs a window of at least 4.5 hours ashore.

How long does the Butchart Gardens shuttle take from the cruise port?
The drive is 35–45 minutes each way from Ogden Point. Allow about 3.5 hours door to door once you add a realistic 90-minute minimum in the gardens plus boarding time, which is why we recommend at least 4.5 hours ashore before booking.
Can I do Butchart Gardens on a short shore day?
Not under about 4.5 hours ashore. With a shorter window the round trip consumes almost all of it and you risk your all-aboard time. Short evening calls of 4–5 hours arriving between 19:00 and 20:00 do not work at all, because the gardens close. On a short call the Inner Harbour, Beacon Hill Park, or Fisherman's Wharf are far better uses of your time.
Do I need to book the Butchart shuttle in advance?
Yes, book ahead. Departures are limited and the shuttle is one of the first things to sell out when several ships are in port on the same day. Booking online also locks in the fare and your preferred departure time.
Is the shuttle the same as the downtown cruise shuttle?
No. The cruise-day downtown shuttle only runs between the Ogden Point terminal and the Inner Harbour for about CA$10–15. The Butchart Gardens Express Shuttle is a separate service that drives 22 km out to the gardens and includes admission.
Is it cheaper to take a taxi to Butchart Gardens?
No. A one-way taxi from Ogden Point to Butchart Gardens typically runs CA$60–80, and you still pay admission on arrival. The shuttle is cheaper and more predictable for cruise passengers unless you are splitting a taxi between four people.
